Island guide

Life on the island

Thulusdhoo is a real Maldivian community — not a resort. Here's what to know before you arrive.

The vibe

Thulusdhoo moves slowly. That's the point. There are no nightclubs, no swim-up bars, no entertainment schedule pinned to your door. What there is: a quiet harbour, a world-class wave, a reef you can walk into, and a community that's been living here for generations.

Guests who come expecting a resort leave disappointed. Guests who come expecting something real leave wanting to come back.

Local customs

Thulusdhoo is a local island with a Muslim community. Visitors are welcome — and respect goes a long way.

Note
Dress respectfully in the village

Bikinis and swimwear are for the beach only. When walking through the island, cover up — shoulders and knees as a minimum. This applies to everyone.

Do
Greet people

Maldivians are friendly and welcoming. A simple hello goes a long way. Assalaam alaikum is the traditional greeting and always appreciated.

Note
Alcohol

Thulusdhoo is a dry island. Alcohol is not available anywhere on the island. Plan accordingly if this matters to your trip.

Do
Ask before photographing people

Always ask permission before taking photos of locals, especially women and children.
